Study Circles

Bahá’ís believe that everyone is endowed by God with gems of inestimable value. However, this hidden potential can only be realized through education in the sciences, the arts and spiritual verities.

...the happiness and greatness, the rank and station,

the pleasure and peace, of an individual have never consisted in his personal wealth, but rather in his excellent character, his high resolve, the breadth of his learning, and his ability to solve difficult problems.
- Abdu’l-Bahá

Bahá’ís are therefore encouraged to regularly spend time studying spiritual truths with all people. These discussions are known as study circles and could consist of as few as three or as many as ten participants. Some study circles happen in homes and others take place in public places like cafes. The venue and style of the study circle depends on the preferences of the participants. Study circles allow participants to engage in a regular and systematic way of gaining a deeper understanding of the Holy Word and finding ways to apply the Word to their lives through spiritual transformation and servise to humanity.

The attainment of the most great guidance is dependent upon knowledge and wisdom, and on being informed as to the mysteries of the Holy Words. Wherefore must the loved ones of God, be they young or old, be they men or women, each one according to his capabilities, strive to acquire the various branches of knowledge, and to increase his understanding of the mysteries of the Holy Books, and his skill in marshalling the divine proofs and evidences.
- Abdu’l-Bahá
