Dizzy Gillespie Backyard Concert Tribute
Other localHello Friends and Neighbors,
We’re having a backyard tribute concert and presentation to bebop jazz trumpet icon Dizzy Gillespie on Saturday, June 13th from 3:00 to 6:00 here in Malden at 68 High Street in the backyard. I will present a brief slide show and history presentation on Dizzy’s life and his major impact on Jazz followed by an inspiring concert with a 4 piece world class band with seasoned pro Jeff Stout playing trumpet, Neal Itzler guitar, Skip Smith bass and a TBA drummer. (All Berklee Faculty.) They will be playing the Dizzy originals Olinga, Con Alma, Night in Tunisia, Salt Peanuts, and Woody ’n' You.
For those who know a bit about Dizzy and his close association with Bebop Jazz icon Charlie Parker who he called "the other half of my heart” I've attached is a sound file describing when Dizzy visited the grave of Charlie Parker who unfortunately died young in 1955 at 34 years of age.
Please spread the word and invite people you think might enjoy this. All are welcome, especially kids!
