Common questions
Questions people ask
Where do programs meet?
In homes, parks, and neighborhood spaces across Greater Boston. There is no Baha'i church or center. Programs meet in living rooms in Cambridge, kitchens in Somerville, parks in Jamaica Plain, and community spaces in Newton. The setting is intimate and familiar.
When you sign up, someone from your area will let you know the exact location. Most gatherings are within walking or short driving distance of where you live.
Is this everything the Baha'i community does?
These programs are entry points into the community, but they are a small part of what happens. The community also celebrates holy days together, hosts neighborhood gatherings, organizes service projects, holds elected consultations, and maintains friendships that extend well beyond any program.
What you see on this page is where most people start. What you find once you are part of the community is much richer than any website can show.
Do I need to prepare anything before coming?
No. Every program on this page is designed so you can walk in knowing nothing. No reading, no homework, no background knowledge required. Just show up.
How often do programs meet?
Most programs meet weekly. Some prayer gatherings are biweekly. The rhythm depends on the specific group and neighborhood. When you reach out, someone will share the current schedule for gatherings near you.
Do I have to be Baha'i to participate?
No. Most people who attend are not Baha'i. Every program on this page is open to everyone regardless of background or belief. There is no membership, no fee, and no expectation that you will join anything.
Are programs really free?
Yes. The Baha'i community does not charge for any program, class, or gathering. There is no suggested donation, no fundraising, and no passing of a plate. Everything is funded by voluntary contributions from Baha'is only. The community does not accept outside donations.
Can my whole family participate?
Yes. There are programs designed for every age. Adults can join prayer gatherings and discussion groups. Children ages 0 to 11 have their own character classes. Teens ages 12 to 15 have a dedicated junior youth program. Many families participate across multiple programs.
What if I come once and it is not for me?
That is completely fine. There is no commitment, no follow-up pressure, and no one will make you feel bad about it. Some people come once and move on. Others come back. Either way, you are welcome.
