Text Reminders

Text reminders for community events.

An optional service for community members. This page covers what it sends, how to turn it on, and how to turn it off.

What this is

Members can get short texts about community gatherings: a reminder before a Feast or a Baha'i holy day, an announcement when something about a gathering changes, and a prompt to report on a gathering you hosted. The same information goes out by email, so the text is a nudge rather than the main announcement. Signing up is optional and takes a moment to undo.

Who sends them

The Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of the City of Boston sends these messages, using software built by Noble Media. They arrive from one dedicated number, and that number sends nothing else.

How to sign up

Sign in at bostonbahais.org/members, open your profile, and turn on text reminders. You will be asked to confirm your mobile number and that you want messages at it.

Member accounts are issued by invitation, so signing up requires an account. We add a number only when the person it belongs to asks us to. We never buy phone numbers or import them from anywhere else.

You will get one text confirming that you are signed up.

This is the setting as it appears in a member profile:

The communication preferences panel in a member profile, with separate text checkboxes for announcements and event reminders and two unchecked consent boxes beneath them, one per message type

Event reminders and community announcements are agreed to separately: each has its own consent checkbox, unchecked until the member ticks it. Both consent statements link to our privacy policy, our terms and conditions, and this page, our text messaging policy.

What you will receive

Four kinds of message:

  • A reminder before a Feast or a Baha'i holy day celebration in your area.
  • An announcement about community gatherings, such as a cancellation or a change of venue.
  • If you hosted a gathering, a prompt to tell the community how it went.
  • One welcome message when you first turn reminders on.

One example of each, in the order above:

Boston Baha'is: Feast is tomorrow Sat 7:00 PM, at Navid's home in Jamaica Plain. Details here: bostonbahais.org/members/events/123. Reply STOP to opt out.

Boston Baha'is: Feast of Rahmat in the Brookline is cancelled tonight. Other feasts are taking place in the cluster. Details here: bostonbahais.org/members/events/513. Reply STOP to opt out.

Boston Baha'is: You hosted feast last time. How did it go? Please fill out a quick survey for the newsletter here: bostonbahais.org/members/events/513/report. Reply STOP to opt out.

Boston Baha'is: you're signed up for text reminders from the Boston Baha'i Community. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.

Links in these messages always point to bostonbahais.org/members. The messages carry community information and nothing else. We do not send advertising or fundraising appeals, and nobody outside the community can send you anything through this number.

How often

Message frequency varies with the community calendar. Feast comes every nineteen days, holy days fall at intervals through the year, and cancellations are rare. Most months that means two or three messages.

Message and data rates

The community charges nothing for this. Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile plan, so check with your carrier if you are unsure.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

How to stop

Reply STOP to any message. You will get one last text confirming it, then nothing further. S, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT all work the same way, and you can switch text reminders off from your profile at any time.

Reply START if you change your mind later.

Stopping texts leaves your membership and your email notifications untouched.

Getting help

Reply HELP to any message for contact details, or write to us through our contact page.

Your privacy

We use your mobile number only for the reminders described on this page. We do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Our privacy policy covers this in full, and our terms and conditions govern the program.

Carrier support

This works on all major US carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Carrier support can vary and is not guaranteed.
